Panama has an abundance of fish--more species than are found in the Galapagos Islands. The east-west orientation of Panama allows for the growth of a 330,000-acre coral reef along the east side of Coiba. In this underwater garden, divers can see 60 of the world's 75+ species of hard and soft coral. In the protected area of Coiba, visitors can also see an abundance of marine life species such as mullet, stingray, triggerfish, puffers, moray eels and turtles.
These waters are also home to Humpback whales, which can be seen in February, March, and from July to September. Many of the locals and travelers to Boca Chica have seen whales while simply standing on the beach. See more in our Water Activities - Diving tour.
